Enter our contest and win a chance to attend Running Start's Young Women's Political Leadership (YWPL) conference in Washington, D.C. 2011!

Race to the Capitol is a new website for high school girls across America to connect with others who are interested in politics and learn about opportunities to get involved with the political process—internships, campaigning, scholarships, etc. This website is made in cooperation with Running Start, a Washington, D.C. based organization that encourages young women to run for political office and made possible by the Eugene M. Lang Opportunity Scholarship.

How do I enter the Race to the Capitol contest?

1. Make a 30-second platform Video to upload to our Race to the Capitol website! Tell us why we should vote for you if run for the President of the U.S.
2. If you are chosen as one of 10 finalists, we will ask you to write a 200-350 word essay about a female politician you admire—local, state, or national.

Who can enter?
Any girl between 13-18 years old, currently enrolled in high school in the United States or the equivalent

Prizes:
1 admission to Running Start's Young Women's Political Leadership conference (up to $150 travel reimbursement, $350 to help Running Start defray program costs, prize valued at $500)

2 prizes to Washington, D.C. to attend the 5th Annual Women to Watch awards on May 11, 2011  (up to $300 travel reimbursement each, $200 allotted spending money, each prize valued at $500)

Directions to enter:

1. Tape your video using a camera, video-camera, your computer, or anything that allows us to see your face and hear your platform clearly.
2. Upload and save your video to YouTube.
3. Go to www.racetothecapitol.com to fill out our online submission form.
4. You will also provide your link to your platform video, and we will upload it into our website.

Official Rules:

1. TO ENTER:
1. Submit a 30 second-video of why you want to be President of the United States and why we should vote for you.
2. Enter the contest by submitting an online application at www.racetothecapitol.com.
3. Finalists will be asked to write a 200-350 word essay about a female politician they admire.
2. ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, girls must be 13-18 years old and currently attending a U.S. high school or the equivalent.
3. NOTIFICATIONS: Winners and finalists will be notified by U.S. mail. This contest opens January 1, 2011 and ends April 15, 2011. Finalists will be notified by April 20, 2011. The final winners will be announced by May 1. Results will be announced on our website once the finalists are chosen and at the end of the contest.
4. Once submitted, all materials become the property of Race to the Capitol.
